Running a Montessori school means keeping the children safe at all times while they are at school. Heritage Montessori takes school safety extremely seriously. We have many protocols in place that our teachers and staff are trained and certified on.
Pickup List & Sign Out
Parents are required to fill out authorized pick up list form to ensure child safety. If someone tries to pick up that child and they are not on the pickup list, that child will not be allowed to leave. If your child is in before or after care, the parent is required to sign their child in and out of school by checking in to the office.
Locked Doors
Once the School day begins at 8:30 AM, the doors to the classrooms are locked from the outside. All visitors and parents must check in with the office before they are allowed to enter into any classroom.
Late Passes
When students arrive late to school, parents are required to walk them into the office and sign them in. Students will then be given a late pass and will be walked to their classroom. The office records what time the child is dropped off.
School Cameras
Cameras are placed in every classroom and are dispersed throughout the Campus. We have outdoor cameras as well. The cameras are recording at all times and we can go back to see past recordings when necessary.
Fire Drills
Every month the entire school participates in a fire drill. All the children are escorted to the appropriate areas. The teachers take roll before they go back inside. Every classroom has up to code fire safety equipment.
Tornado Drills
Every quarter the entire school also participates in a tornado drill. The students go into the back corner of the classroom away from all windows and doors. If there is possible hazardous weather and we know about it before hand, we will have an early pickup for that day.
Food and Allergy Safety
Each classroom has a list of student food allergies. If the child is allergic to a food, they will not be given that food or any food that contains it. We also have vegetarian and special dietary meals available.
CPR Certified
Every teacher and administrator is CPR Certified. This certificate is good for two years and every teacher must keep their certificate up to date. If an incident were to ever happen on campus, parents and authorities will be called immediately.
Buddy System
Everything your child needs is in the classroom. They work in the classroom, eat lunch in the classroom, they even have a restroom in every classroom. However, if for any reason a student must leave the classroom, they go with a teacher. If they are in Lower Elementary or apart of Upper Campus, the students go in pairs.
Animal Safety
Our students are taught the appropriate ways to take care and interact with our classroom animals. Students always wash their hands before and after interacting with our animals. Working with animals is apart of our curriculum, and our students love to help take care them!
Car Line
At the end of each day, students are dismissed when their name is called in car line. Those who are in aftercare, are dismissed to the aftercare room at the end of car line. Those who are in car line are supervised by their teacher until their parent arrives. Students wait inside their classroom, and as their parent arrives, their name is called, and a teacher walks them to their car. Teachers stay with the students at all times.
Medicine Safety
If your child requires medicine during the school day, you must first fill out a medical distribution form. All medicine is kept in the front office. Students will be escorted to the office when it is time to take their medicine. Once the medicine is given to the student, it is recorded.
Network/Technology Safety
Our school relies on technology to get through the day. Our teachers and administrators use computers and technology to take roll and get in touch with parents. All of our Wifi servers and computers are password protected and all of our computers have parental controls set so that students are only working on appropriate material.
Playground Safety
Our students love to play on our playground! We always abide by teacher/student ratio on the playground. While the students are playing, the gate to the playground is locked and no student is permitted to leave the playground without a teacher or their parent.
Incident Report
If something were to occur on the school campus regarding the safety and well-being of a student, their parent is contacted immediately and an incident report is filled out. This report stays in the students file in the office. A detailed list of these polices can be found in our parent handbook.
